Thursday was a day to remember for South Africa as they secured their spot in the final of the ICC World Cup for the first time ever. It was led by Aiden Markram. The South African team dominated Afghanistan. SA won by 9 wickets at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. The victory propelled them to the T20 World Cup 2024 final.South Africa created history South Africa’s success was even more significant as they ended a 32-year-long wait. Despite reaching the World Cup semi-finals in 1992, they had always fallen short. It took them 8 attempts to finally break the streak of 7 consecutive losses. Another heartbreak followed in 1999, when they narrowly missed out on a spot in the ICC final against Australia. Lance Klusener’s impressive performance brought them close, but a mix-up with Allan Donald resulted in a run-out. It left them one run short with only three balls remaining. In 2009, they stumbled against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup semis. They lost by 7 runs despite Jacques Kallis’ 64 and JP Duminy’s unbeaten 44. The ODI World Cup 2023 also saw them come close, but they were defeated by Pat Cummins’ Australia at the Eden Gardens.
