Kalki 2898 AD review: Typical Hollywood style scifi and fantasy blockbuster

Nearly ten years later, director Nag Ashwin presents ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, a captivating film set in a dystopian future. It is combining futuristic concepts with elements of Hindu mythology. This movie is bound to leave you astounded, just like the sensation ‘Baahubali’ did. Kalki 2898 AD plot In a world that has passed thousands of years since the Mahabharata war, Kashi stands as the last remaining city. Supreme Yaskin (played by Kamal Haasan) reigns over this world. He was eagerly awaiting a magical serum. It would grant him extraordinary powers. While the wealthy revel in the comforts of the Complex, a place exclusively designed for the privileged, the poor suffer in the city. Bhairava (portrayed by Prabhas) dreams of entering the Complex, and to achieve this, he works as a bounty hunter. He took on small tasks to earn the necessary units that will secure his place.
Ashwattama (played by Amitabh Bachchan), hailing from a different era, continues to exist with a sense of duty to fulfill. Additionally, there is Sumathi (portrayed by Deepika Padukone). She is pregnant and flees from the Complex in order to protect her life. What connection does she have with Ashwattama and the Complex? Kalki 2898 AD review The film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ starts off slowly, but once the filmmaker introduces the world he has created, it becomes quite intriguing. Before that, we are shown episodes about Ashwattama, Sumathi, and Bhairava. They may seem disconnected. It requires a bit of patience. It is especially during the scenes involving Bhairava and Roxie (Disha Patani). These moments tend to slow down the story. Amitabh Bachchan’s portrayal of Ashwattama is a major highlight of the film. His on-screen presence and intense voice make us truly believe that he is the character. Prabhas, on the other hand, takes on a comedic role that becomes more serious in the second half. While his comedic timing works in some parts, he truly excels in the action sequences. These are the core of the movie. Deepika Padukone’s character Sumathi serves as a key element in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, guiding us through the narrative. Kamal Haasan’s cameo as Yaskin is quite menacing. He left us curious about his backstory and transformation. The supporting cast, including Shobana, Pasupathy, and Anna Ben, deliver strong performances. However, it is Shobana’s character and her acting that truly elevate the film at a crucial juncture.
