The Biju Patnaik Sports Award has been renamed as ‘Odisha Rajya Krida Samman’ by the newly elected BJP government. It will be given in eight categories every year. It depends on the availability of deserving candidates. The cash rewards will remain the same. New guidelines for the odisha Rajya Krida Samman As per the guidelines, the lifetime achievement award for sports promotion will come with a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh, while Rs 2 lakh will be given for outstanding sports performance, and Rs 1 lakh for coaching excellence. Similarly, a prize of Rs 1 lakh will be awarded in various categories such as best contribution to sports promotion, excellence in sports journalism, para-sports person of the year, upcoming athlete of the year (junior category), and sports technical official/support staff of the year. Eligible winners must be residents of Odisha with a commendable track record. Each individual can only receive the award once in their lifetime for each category. It may also be awarded posthumously to their family. A committee of five members, including senior officials and coaches from the Sports and Youth Services Department will be appointed by the secretary to review the nominations. The committee will be led by the sports director or the most senior officer. The awards will be presented during a special ceremony held on National Sports Day (August 29) annually.
