- Eighteen lives were tragically lost in the aviation accident involving a Saurya Airlines aircraft. The aircraft was bearing the registration number 9N-AME (CRJ 200). This accident occured during takeoff at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, Nepal. The flight was bound for Pokhara and had a total of nineteen passengers on board. Nepal plane crash latest updates The pilot named Manish Shakya was successfully rescued from the crash site. He had promptly taken to a nearby hospital in Sinamangal for urgent medical treatment. As reported by Gyanendra Bhul, the information officer at TIA, the aircraft was carrying technical personnel of the airline. It was on its way to Pokhara Regional Airport for maintenance purposes. The aircraft involved in this tragic incident is a Bombardier CRJ-200ER with the registration number 9N-AME. It was originally manufactured in 2003. Following the plane crash, witnesses observed smoke emanating from the aircraft. Emergency responders, including police and firefighters, were dispatched to the crash site to conduct rescue operations. Subsequently, the aircraft caught fire and descended into a gorge located on the eastern side of the runway. Saurya Airlines was acquired by India’s Kuber Group in 2019 for 630 million Nepali rupees. Plans to rebrand the airline as Kuber Airlines in 2021 were reportedly postponed. In December 6, 2018, operations of Saurya Airlines at Kathmandu airport were suspended due to the carrier’s outstanding debts. The airline was permitted to resume its services in 2020 after making a partial payment of the $355,000 debt owed to the airport.
