In 2023, the number of deaths from AIDS-related illnesses was approximately 630,000. It is a significant decrease from the 2.1 million deaths reported in 2004. The most recent data shows that the number is more than twice the goal set for 2025. It aimed for fewer than 250,000 deaths, as reported by UNAIDS. It is the leading UN agency in the global fight to eradicate the pandemic.
