OpenAI has introduced a new AI-powered search engine that aims to leverage its AI models and web information. The company claims that this search engine provides quick and relevant answers from various sources on the internet. SearchGPT features Currently, OpenAI is in the testing phase of SearchGPT and has made it available to a limited group of 10,000 testers as a temporary prototype. It is planned to be integrated with ChatGPT in the future. This new search engine is positioned as an alternative to Google. Unlike traditional search engines that display a list of links, SearchGPT aims to organize and present information in a more coherent manner. For example, when a user searches for music festivals, SearchGPT will provide a summary of its findings along with brief descriptions of the events and attribution links. The company highlighted in a blog post that SearchGPT was created in partnership with various news organizations, such as the entities behind The Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press, and Vox Media. The post emphasized that SearchGPT focuses on search functionality. It is distinct from the training of OpenAI’s generative AI base models. Even websites that choose not to participate in generative AI training can still appear in search results. The introduction of SearchGPT demonstrates OpenAI’s commitment to improving ChatGPT and expanding real-time web capabilities. However, as a prototype, there is a possibility that it may provide highly inaccurate responses, similar to Google’s suggestion of adding glue to pizza. SearchGPT launch date The exact launch date for SearchGPT for all users remains uncertain. Nevertheless, given OpenAI’s progress, the release is likely not too far off.
