Prior to the announcement of the results, opposition leader Maria Corina Machado urged the Venezuelan military to respect the outcome of the vote. She emphasized that the people of Venezuela have clearly expressed their rejection of Maduro. Machado called on the military to align themselves with the will of the people and seize the opportunity to stand on the right side of history. Despite these calls, there is no indication of any public dissent among the military leaders, who have consistently supported Maduro, a former bus driver and foreign minister aged 61.
