Despite facing heartbreak earlier, the young shooter from Dheen village in Ambala, Haryana, overcame the odds to claim a bronze medal in Paris. He raised by his farmer father, Jatinder Singh, and homemaker mother, Hardeep Kaur. Sarabjot pursued his education at DAV College in Chandigarh and received training from coach Abhishek Rana. His passion for shooting was ignited during his childhood when he observed other children practicing with air guns at a local range during a summer camp. At just 13 years old, the Olympic champion had aspirations of becoming a football player, but couldn’t shake the image of children shooting at paper targets with pistols. In 2014, he approached his father and expressed his desire to try shooting. Despite his father’s concerns about the cost, the young athlete persisted and eventually took up the sport. His dedication paid off when he won a Gold medal at the Junior World Championship in Suhl in 2019. On Tuesday, July 30th, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh secured India’s second medal at the Paris Olympics. He claimed bronze in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre. Despite South Korea narrowing the gap, the Indian pair maintained their composure and secured a solid victory.This marks Sarabjot’s first Olympic medal, while Manu made history as the first Indian to win multiple medals in a single Olympic Games, having previously earned a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
