On Tuesday, the Supreme Court concluded the contempt proceedings involving yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna after they provided assurances to refrain from disseminating misleading advertisements and other assertions concerning Patanjali Ayurved products. Patanjali misleading ads case is closed The court cautioned that it would impose severe consequences for any breach of its directives. A bench comprising Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah had previously reserved its decision regarding the contempt notice on May 14. This case originated from a petition submitted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Ima accused Patanjali of conducting a smear campaign against the Covid vaccination initiative and modern medical practices. Following a reprimand from the Supreme Court in November 2023, Patanjali committed to ceasing its misleading advertisements. Nevertheless, in February, the court observed that such advertisements persisted and subsequently issued contempt notices to both the company and its managing director, Balkrishna. The court also requested the personal appearance of Balkrishna and Baba Ramdev after the response to the contempt notice was not submitted. On April 16, both individuals appeared before the Supreme Court. Courtoffered an unconditional apology for disseminating misleading advertisements and for their remarks regarding allopathic medicines.
