Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement today. It was renamed over seven months prior to obtaining permission. Headquartered at the IAU in Paris. IAU accepted the name “Statio Shiva Shakti” for the landing site on March 19. This information can be found in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature. It is a comprehensive list of approved planetary names by the astronomical organization. The Gazetteer described the name as a compound word from Indian mythology. This word represents the duality of nature. “Shiva” symbolizes the masculine and “Shakti” represents the feminine.It specifically referred to the landing site of Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander. In addition, the Prime Minister said that August 23, the day of Chandrayaan-3’s lunar landing, would henceforth be observed as “National Space Day“. He said that ‘Tiranga’, the location of Chandrayaan-2’s footprints on the lunar surface. It will serve as a “inspiration for every effort made by India.” It serves as a reminder that no failure is ever fatal. The Chandrayaan-3 mission made history on August 23, 2023, when it made a successful soft landing on the Moon.
