Mukhtar Ansari was born in 1960 in Yusufpur, Uttar Pradesh. He had a controversial and captivating journey from a life of crime to a position of power. His family had a significant role in India’s freedom movement and post-independence politics. His paternal grandfather, Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, was a prominent leader in the Indian National Congress. He even served as its president in 1927.Before his involvement with the Congress, Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari was associated with the Muslim League. After sometime he distanced himself from it due to its separatist agenda. He also held the esteemed position of Chancellor at Jamia Millia Islamia until his demise in 1936.On his maternal side, Brigadier Mohammad Usman was Mukhtar Ansari’s grandfather. He was a highly decorated officer in the Indian Army. He made the ultimate sacrifice in the Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir during a conflict with Pakistan in 1948. He was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra for his bravery.
