According to Reuters news agency, the Taiwanese government confirmed that the four fatalities occurred in Hualien county. It serves as the epicenter of the earthquake.

Additionally, over 50 individuals sustained injuries in the affected region. Furthermore, the government reported that a minimum of 26 buildings have collapsed. More than half of the buildings are located in the aforementioned county. Operations are currently in progress to rescue approximately 20 individuals. These people are trapped in the debris of collapsed structures. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.4, while Taiwan’s earthquake monitoring agency indicated a measurement of 7.2 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at 7:58 am. It is approximately 18 km south-southwest of Hualien, with a depth of about 35 km. According to the USGS, Taipei experienced several aftershocks. It included one with a magnitude of 6.5 and a depth of around 11.8 km. lTaiwan’s Central Weather Administration warned of more aftershocks in the next three to four days. These can potentially reach a magnitude of 6.5 to 7.0.
