Bengal high court canceled the 24000 jobs due to illegal hiring. The Calcutta High Court made a big decision on Monday. They canceled the whole recruitment panel for school teachers in 2016. This panel was made by the West Bengal School Service Commission. It turns out there was a scam with the jobs. Around 24,000 jobs were taken away because of this. They said that the teachers who got the jobs illegally will have to give back the money they were paid within four weeks. The district magistrate will be in charge of collecting the money from these teachers. The canceled recruitment panel includes all the people who were hired to be teachers and other staff members in different schools in Bengal. These people were chosen through an entrance exam by the WBSC. The judges also said that they want to re-evaluate about 23 lakh test papers from the entrance exam. They want to make sure everything was done fairly. The request made by some people to stop the order was denied. The court also told the CBI to do more investigation about how the appointments were made and give a report in three months. The WBSSC has been told to start the appointment process again. More than 23 lakh people took the 2016 State Level Selection Test (SLST) by the WBSSC for over 24,000 open jobs. Lots of people who want jobs were waiting outside the court and were happy when they heard the decision. The High Court finished listening to the case on March 20. The judges needed more time to make a decision. The CBI was looking into the case because of an earlier order from the court. The CBI arrested Partha Chatterjee. He is a former Education Minister in Bengal. CBI arrested it because they thought he was involved in the scam. Abhijit Ganguly is a former judge from the Calcutta High Court. He is now running for BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. He told the CBI to investigate the case.
