The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that a person in Mexico who had previously had health problems died from bird flu in April. The WHO said they don’t know how the person got infected with the virus. They also mentioned that the risk of bird flu spreading to other people is currently low. First Bird flu death in world The person who passed away was a 59-year-old resident of the State of Mexico. They were taken to a hospital in Mexico City and unfortunately died on April 24. Bird flu symptoms The symptoms they experienced included fever, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, nausea, and feeling generally unwell, according to the WHO. This case is significant because it is the first confirmed case of a person being infected with the influenza A(H5N2) virus worldwide. It is also the first time a person in Mexico has been reported to have the avian H5 virus. However, scientists have stated that this case is not related to the bird flu outbreak in the United States. It has affected three dairy farm workers. The Ministry of Health in Mexico has also stated that they have not yet identified the source of the infection. The individual had no previous contact with poultry or other animals, yet had various pre-existing medical conditions. It had been confined to bed for three weeks due to unrelated issues before experiencing sudden symptoms, as stated by the WHO. The health ministry of Mexico disclosed that the person suffered from chronic kidney disease and type 2 diabetes. Official statement of doctor Andrew Pekosz, an influenza specialist at Johns Hopkins University, highlighted that such medical conditions can increase the risk of severe influenza, even during regular flu seasons. However, the source of infection for this particular case remains a significant unknown that has not been adequately explored in the initial report.
