The Centre announced on Tuesday that Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi will succeed General Manoj Pande as the next Chief of the Army Staff. Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi has been honored with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and three GOC-in-C Commendation Cards. In his role as the Northern Army Commander, he provided strategic guidance and operational oversight for sustained operations along the northern and western borders. Additionally, he successfully led dynamic counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir, as informed by officials to news agency PTI. Throughout this period, Upendra Dwivedi was actively participating in the ongoing negotiations with China to address the complex border matter. He was also instrumental in the modernization and enhancement of the largest Indian Army command. He is overseeing the integration of indigenous equipment in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Over his extensive and illustrious career spanning almost four decades, he has held various command, staff, instructional, and foreign roles. Dwivedi’s command roles have included leading the regiment (18 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles), Brigade (26 Sector Assam Rifles), Inspector General, Assam Rifles (East), and 9 Corps.
