Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui is the founder and managing trustee of Al-Falah University, which is facing probe in “white collar” terror module case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui, Chairman of Al Falah group, in connection with a money laundering case.
Siddiqui was arrested by the probe agency under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. Siddiqui is the founder and managing trustee of Al-Falah University, which came under the scanner following the busting of the ‘white-collar’ terror module and the blast near the Red Fort on November 10 that claimed 15 lives.
Siddiqui’s arrest took place on Tuesday following a detailed investigation and analysis of evidence gathered during search conducted at premises linked to Al Falah group under PMLA, the ED said.
The central agency started the probe against Al Falah group on the basis of 2 FIRs registered by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police, based on the allegations that the university made fraudulent and misleading claims of NAAC accreditation with an intention to deceive students, parents, and stakeholders. It has also been alleged in the FIR that the institution falsely claimed UGC recognition under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 with oblique motive to cheat aspirants, students and parents.
Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Shaheen Sayeed – both arrested in connection with the terror module – were connected to the university, while Dr Umar Nabi, who was driving the Hyundai i20 that exploded in the Red Fort area last week, was an assistant professor at the university.
