Former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad has passed away after a long fight against blood cancer. Gaekwad’s health struggles were first revealed by former cricketer Sandeep Patil earlier this year. He shared that Gaekwad had been bravely battling his illness for over a year and receiving treatment in London.

Gaekwad played in 40 Tests and 15 ODIs during his 12-year career, scoring 2254 runs with 2 centuries, including a top score of 201 against Pakistan in Jalandhar in 1983.BCCI Secretary Jay Shah had previously pledged INR 1 crore to support Gaekwad and personally reached out to his family to offer assistance during this challenging time. The BCCI assured Gaekwad’s family of full support and expressed hope for his recovery. Gaekwad disclosed his financial difficulties to Patil in a personal conversation. In response to this predicament, former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar contacted BCCI Treasurer Ashish Selar. He committed to addressing the request for financial assistance. Additionally, Kapil Dev is the captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team also advocated for financial aid for Gaekwad. Dev, along with other cricketing icons such as Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Sandeep Patil, Dilip Vengsarkar, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri, and Kirti Azad, collaborated to generate funds to assist their ailing peer.
