Many recipients honoured with the Bharat Ratna Award 2024. These include; former prime ministers Chaudhary Charan Singh and PV Narasimha Rao, veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former deputy prime minister LK Advani, eminent agricultural scientist and architect of the Green Revolution MS Swaminathan, and former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur. It is worth noting that Chaudhary Charan Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, Karpoori Thakur, and MS Swaminathan received the award posthumously. However, LK Advani will be presented with the award at his residence. The President’s Secretariat has stated that the Change of Guard Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan did not take place on that day due to the Bharat Ratna presentation ceremony. The son of Karpoori Thakur is Ram Nath Thakur. He received the Bharat Ratna award. He expressed his happiness and gratitude towards PM Modi and the government of India for acknowledging his father’s work. Government conferres him with this prestigious honor. Similarly, Nitya Rao is the daughter of MS Swaminathan. She received the award on her behalf. Additionally, Jayant Chaudhary is the grandson of former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. He is the Rajya Sabha MP, received the award as well.
What is Bharata Ratna
The Bharat Ratna is India’s highest civilian award. It is established in 1954. It is given in recognition of exceptional service or performance in any field of human endeavor. The Prime Minister recommends individuals for this award to the President. After that no formal recommendations are required.
