History of the CAA in India

It offers a fast-track pathway to Indian citizenship for migrants. These migrants are from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. These migrants should belong to specific religious communities who entered India before December 31, 2014. These migrants should enter India due to religious persecution in their home countries.

Protests took place in Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh and Guwahati, Assam. It subsided during the Covid-induced restrictions and lockdowns.Following the government’s notification, the Delhi Police has increased security. The security is on the peak in and around the Shaheen Bagh area. This area was the center of anti-CAA protests previously.
Congress view on the implementation of the CAA
The timing of the government’s notification has been questioned by the Congress. Congress suggested it was done to polarize the elections.Congress’s Communications In-charge Jairam Ramesh criticized the delay in notifying the rules for the CAA. He accused the Prime Minister of making false claims about the government’s efficiency.
