CAA news: The government of Tripura has created a special committee with six members. The aim of this committee is to help people get citizenship under a law called the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.

This law was made in December 2019 to give Indian citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian people who faced persecution in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan and came to India before December 31, 2014.
CAA news: Tripura formed a state level committee
The committee is led by the Director of Census Operations. The Director said that all District Magistrates in the state will also make committees to review applications before sending them to the main committee.The Ministry of Home Affairs has given orders to create a state-level committee for granting Indian citizenship under the CAA. The Director, Census Operations, Rabindra Reang said to PTI. He mentioned that all District Magistrates have been instructed to set up district-level committees. The aim of these committee is to handle applications under the CAA. They also review them before sending them to the state-level committee. Reang also stated that individuals residing in Sixth schedule areas are not qualified to apply for citizenship under the Act. “According to the CAA, only those who seek refuge from three specific countries due to religious persecution in areas like Agartala Municipal Corporation, municipalities, nagar panchayats, and gram panchayats are eligible to apply for Indian citizenship with proper documentation,” he added.
