Scammers are utilizing international spoofed calls with Indian mobile numbers to target Indian individuals. They Target indians to engaging in cybercrime and financial deception.These calls appear to be originating from India. They are actually orchestrated by cyber-criminals located overseas. These cyber criminals manipulate the calling line identity (CLI). Chakshu facility for spam calls Recently, these fraudulent calls have been utilized in various scams such as fake digital arrests, FedEx scams, courier schemes involving drugs or narcotics, impersonation of government and law enforcement officials. This also includes threats of mobile service disconnections allegedly by officials from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) or the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). In response to this, the Ministry of Communications has announced that the Department of Telecommunications and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) have implemented a system. This system will detect and prevent such incoming international spoofed calls from reaching any Indian telecom subscriber.Official statement of government on chakshu facility. The statement mentioned that the department has instructed the TSPs to prevent the reception of fraudulent international calls. It further stated that the TSPs are already taking measures to block such calls originating from Indian landline numbers. Furthermore, the department has introduced a user-focused Sanchar Saathi portal to prioritize the safety and security of individuals in light of fraud and international call risks. It was highlighted that individuals can utilize the “Chakshu” feature on the portal to report any suspicious fraudulent communications. Features of Chakshu The utilization of the digital platform empowers individuals to identify and report fraudulent calls and text messages, thereby enhancing security measures against anonymous criminals who exploit technology to unlawfully obtain people’s finances. This platform streamlines the process of reporting fraudulent activities and facilitates the immediate exchange of valuable information among multiple parties involved. Furthermore, the platform will encompass comprehensive data pertaining to instances where telecommunication resources have been misused, ensuring that such cases are duly documented and addressed.
