The full decision rendered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport regarding Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her ban from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris has been made public. Court of arbitration verdict on Vinesh Phogat Vinesh Phogat filed an appeal against the ruling after she was eliminated before the 50 kg division final due to her weight. As a result, the Indian wrestler would be placed last and disqualified. Vinesh would challenge the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and request a joint-silver medal. On Wednesday, August 14, after much consideration, Vinesh’s appeal was ultimately dismissed. The International Olympic Committee and the United World Wrestling were favored by the CAS’s operational ruling on Wednesday. Court of arbitration verdict On Monday, August 19, CAS published a comprehensive ruling that describes the drawn-out procedure. The applicant’s failure to meet the 50 kg weight limit during the second weigh-in is undeniable. Her basic argument is that this is a minor excess that can be explained by things like the menstrual cycle, water retention, the need to drink enough water, and the fact that she didn’t have enough time to lose weight before traveling to the athlete’s village. The weight restriction is clearly stated in the rules. It apply to all competitors, which presents an issue for the athlete. It is an upper limit, and no tolerance is given. Not even the singlet’s weight is accommodated.
