In a heart-wrenching development, the parents of Dr. Abhaya, the young doctor who was tragically murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, have reached out to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, expressing their deep anguish and plea for justice. Their letter, sent on Tuesday, offers a glimpse into the immense pain and helplessness they’ve been experiencing since losing their daughter.
“After that heinous unforeseen incident happened to our daughter, we have been going through tremendous mental pressure and feeling helpless now,” Dr. Abhaya’s father wrote in his emotional appeal to Shah. The grieving parents are desperately seeking a meeting with the Home Minister, hoping his experience and guidance might help them navigate this difficult time.
The victim’s mother, speaking with visible emotion, shared her hopes about meeting Shah. “I will tell him about the mental agony we have been going through because our daughter is yet to get justice,” she said, her voice reflecting the deep pain of a mother seeking closure.
The case, which has shocked the medical community and the nation, took place on August 9 when Dr. Abhaya was found murdered in the hospital’s seminar hall. The investigation has already led to several arrests, including Sanjay Roy, a civil volunteer initially charged with the crime. As the investigation progressed, the CBI made additional arrests, including the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, and Abhijit Mondal, the suspended officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station.
The parents’ letter emphasizes their willingness to meet the Home Minister at any time and place convenient to him, highlighting their desperate search for answers and justice. “I would truly be grateful for the opportunity to speak with you and gain your insights on the issue,” the father wrote, underlining their hope that this meeting might bring them closer to finding peace and justice for their daughter.
This tragic case continues to raise serious questions about safety in medical institutions and the need for swift justice in cases of violence against healthcare workers. As the parents await a response from the Home Minister, their story serves as a painful reminder of the long-lasting impact of such heinous crimes on families and communities.
