The high Court established a maximum age limit for individuals who take part in adventurous sports. These sports include Kayaking, river rafting, etc.

The panel consisting of Justice MS Ramachandra Rao and Jyotsna Rewal Dua emphasized the requirement for a “fitness certificate” for elderly individuals involved in these activities, as per Live Law. “It is recommended to set an upper age limit for individuals interested in kayaking or other river sports. It is also to mandate senior citizens participating in such activities to present a Fitness Certificate,” stated the court. The court thoroughly examined the safety regulations for river rafting and other adventurous sports. The court found that the operators of river rafting were in violation of Rule 11(b) of the Himachal Pradesh River Rafting Rules, 2005. It requires them to have two rescue rafts or a combination of one raft and a kayak. In light of previous rulings, the court’s recent decision aims to improve safety measures in river sports. It is particularly after the unfortunate death of a 65-year-old tourist. The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 18 to further discuss the matter.
