On May 14, Jackie took legal action against various entities for unlawfully utilizing his name, images, voice, and his moniker ‘Bhidu’.

The hearing for Jackie Shroff’s case is scheduled for May 15. It is possible that the court may issue an interim order after tomorrow’s proceedings. Advocate Pravin Anand is representing Shroff. He informed the court that his images have been used in offensive memes. His voice has also been misused for similar purposes in certain instances. In his plea presented to the High Court, the esteemed actor has requested the safeguarding of his various names such as Jackie Shroff, Jackie, Jaggu Dada, and Bhidu. He firmly stated that these attributes cannot be utilized without his explicit authorization on any platform. Furthermore, he appealed for the Department of Technology and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) to be directed in removing all links and websites that unlawfully infringe upon his personality rights.
Background of personal rights cases of other actors
This occurrence is not unprecedented. Other Bollywood actors have previously resorted to legal action in order to protect their personality rights. Anil Kapoor, for instance, approached the court last year for the same purpose. He emerged victorious in January of this year. Consequently, his name, voice, image, likeness, manner of speaking, gestures, and even the iconic catchphrase ‘jhakaas’ are now safeguarded.
