The creation of five new districts in Ladakh has been announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Changthang, Nubra, Sham, Zanskar, and Drass are the newly established districts.
Ladakh gets 5 new districts
It is anticipated that the districts will enhance public service delivery and bring government initiatives closer to the people living in the isolated locations. According to the Ladakh administration’s official website, the Union Territory currently consists of the districts of Leh and Kargil. The MHA has chosen to establish five new districts in the union territory in order to carry out PM Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed and thriving Ladakh. By strengthening governance, the new districts of Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang will bring advantages intended for the people directly to their doorstep. The former state was divided into two Union Territories as a result of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act of 2019: Jammu and Kashmir. It has its own Assembly, and Ladakh. Ott lacks a legislative body. This action is noteworthy for its timing, as it comes just after Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections were announced for September. This is going to be the region’s first election since its special status was revoked in 2019.
