Maharaja movie review: Director Nithilan Swaminathan made his directorial debut in 2017 with Korangu Bommai. It was a meticulously crafted crime thriller that received high praise from critics. Now, after a gap of seven years, he returns to the silver screen with Maharaja, another gripping thriller. Interestingly, this film also marks the 50th project of Tamil star Vijay Sethupathi. Maharaja movie review Maharaja revolves around the central character, a barber named Vijay Sethupathi. He leads a simple life. His existence revolves around two key aspects: faithfully performing his job every single day and taking care of his daughter, Jothi, no matter what challenges come their way. These two aspects form the core of his life. Everything runs like clockwork. Jothi, on the other hand, is a talented young athlete in high school. She greatly admires her physical education teacher, Mamta Mohandas. She serves as a constant source of motivation. In their unique relationship, it is Jothi who takes on the role of a parent to her father. However, one thing that binds them together is their affection for a dustbin they affectionately refer to as ‘Lakshmi’. However, despite leading a simple and content life within his own little world, Maharaja unexpectedly finds himself inside a police station one fateful day. His purpose for being there is to file a First Information Report (FIR) as his precious possession, ‘Lakshmi’. It has been stolen from his home. Unfortunately, the police officers dismiss his plea. Police is deeming it as a trivial matter. Nevertheless, Maharaja remains unwavering in his determination and refuses to leave the police station until his beloved Lakshmi is returned to him. As the story unfolds, we gradually uncover the truth behind this perplexing situation and unravel the mystery surrounding Maharaja’s unwavering pursuit to recover Lakshmi. Maharaja movie review in English Maharaja is a captivating story with some flaws. The non-linear narrative might confuse viewers who don’t pay close attention. It’s not a typical crime thriller, which is why it works well. With red herrings and complex sub-plots, Maharaja keeps you hooked. Despite smaller roles, the women in the film are crucial to the story. At its core, the film explores a touching father-daughter relationship that resonates emotionally. Vijay Sethupathi shines in his role as Maharaja, delivering a realistic performance that tugs at the heartstrings. Anurag Kashyap surprises with his portrayal of a common man, showcasing his versatility. Natty, Mamta Mohandas, and Abhirami also deliver strong performances.
