Today, Narendra Modi inaugurated India’s first metro line “Under any mighty river” in Kolkata. On Wednesday, it is a historic project. It demonstrates the country’s progress in developing infrastructure.He also inaugurated several connectivity projects worth Rs 15,400 crore.

The inauguration of the metro railway was held yesterday by the PM. He inaugurated the metro at the three Kavi Subhash, Majerhat and the Esplanade stations of Kolkata Metro; Kochi Metro, Agra Metro, Meerut-RRTS section and Pune Metro.The underwater services connect Howrah Maidan with the N by N platform. It is a part of the Howrah-Calcutta section of Kolkata Metro’s E-W corridor. The distance between these two is 4.8 km under the Hooghly River.
Importance of the first underwater metro in Kolkata
This metro is going to be a Silent link between Howrah and the conurbation of Salt Lake. It is the capital of West Bengal. Underground stations account for 50 per cent of the whole project. Experts predict this tube line to take 45 seconds while traveling through a 520-meter tunnel dug beneath the river Hooghly.The head governing body, etc., flagged off the first ride on the underwater metro wherein a school rally was on board.In a video from inside the metro railway premises, Modi came to the school children sitting next to him by interacting with them. Some of the children who were standing near him.He waved to passengers aboard rushing by which metro train they were in.The historic project became operational. It is starting the course just a few months after Kolkata Metro ran through the tunnel underwater, as trials for the same. It is the first for India. It was completed in the month of April 2023.
