Preeti Sudan was a former Union Health Secretary. She was a member of the 1983 batch of IAS officers. She has been designated as the new chairperson of the UPSC.

She will be taking over from Manoj Soni. Manoj soni stepped down from his position earlier this month due to personal reasons. Preeti Sudan is scheduled to assume her responsibilities as the UPSC chairperson on August 1. The decision to appoint her was confirmed by President Droupadi Murmu after it was proposed in a letter from Additional Secretary Manoj Kumar Dwivedi to UPSC secretary Shashi Ranjan Kumar. It was mentioned in the letter that Preeti Sudan will serve as the UPSC chairperson until further notice or until April 29, 2025, whichever comes first.Manoj Soni resigned from his position almost five years before his term was set to end in 2029. His resignation came during the controversy involving Puja Khedkar. Pooja is a probationary IAS officer, she is accused of using fake disability and caste certificates to get selected. However, sources told India Today that Soni’s resignation was not linked to this issue.In a letter from Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, it was revealed that Soni submitted his resignation on July 4. Manoj Soni became a member of the UPSC in 2017 and was appointed chairperson of the commission on May 16, 2023. The commission oversees the civil services exam (CSE). It is used to recruit for important government roles like IAS, IPS, and IFS.
