Rattirer sathi: The West Bengal government inaugurated the “Rattirer Sathi” campaign on Saturday in response to the outcry around the violent rape and murder of a trainee postgraduate doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar hospital. Rattirer sathi programme The programme’s goal is to protect women who work night shifts. A number of security measures are part of the program. It includes the establishment of safe zones with complete CCTV coverage. The nighttime deployment of female volunteers, the use of special mobile applications that link to police stations through alerts, and breathalyzer testing and security checks at hospitals and medical institutions. Every hospital floor will have drinking water amenities and dedicated restrooms with feminine toilets. In addition, hospitals, women’s hostels, and medical colleges will all have nighttime police patrols. Additionally, identity cards are to be clearly visible to all instructors, staff, and security personnel in all medical facilities, according to government law. Officers in charge of hospitals and medical schools will oversee security personnel. The program also states that female doctors’ shifts cannot last longer than 12 hours. In response to the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a government-run hospital in Kolkata last week, tens of thousands of medical professionals and nurses nationwide staged a 24-hour nationwide protest. This announcement was made by the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal.
