Isro is making preparations for the third landing experiment with Pushpak, the Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV). RLV Pushpak launch date. According to officials, everything is in place for the mission. It is including the Pushpak and the Chinook helicopter. However, there is a possibility that the weather conditions may cause a delay until next week. The landing attempt for RLV-LEX3 will take place at the Aeronautical Test Range in Challakere, Karnataka. This comes after the successful completion of RLV-LEX2 on March 22, where the winged prototype ‘Pushpak’ demonstrated its ability to autonomously land from non-standard conditions. RLV-LEX3 will present a greater challenge, as it will intentionally test a cross-range error of approximately 500 meters. It is compared to 150 meters in LEX2. The spacecraft will be released away from the runway’s line of sight. It requires the system to align itself, make course corrections, and orient for a successful touchdown. Sources within Isro have informed IndiaToday.in that this mission is significant, as it will also incorporate an advanced guidance algorithm capable of simultaneously correcting errors in both the longitudinal and lateral planes. This decoupled approach improves upon the method used in LEX2, enhancing precision and control. To ensure a gentler touchdown and decrease the impact on landing, the descent speed of the main landing gear has been reduced to less than 1 meter per second, as opposed to the 1.5 meter per second limit during LEX2. Furthermore, a smoke marker system has been implemented to track the descent path, offering visual data for analysis and future enhancements. During the second landing trial, Pushpak was hoisted by an Indian Airforce Chinook helicopter and was released from an altitude of 4.5 km. Upon release at a distance of 4 km from the runway, Pushpak autonomously navigated towards the runway while making cross-range adjustments. It landed precisely on the runway and came to a stop using its brake parachute, landing gear brakes, and nose wheel steering system. The RLV-LEX series is focused on advancing and validating technologies for reusable launch vehicles, facilitating cost-efficient and sustainable space missions. The successful conclusion of RLV-LEX3 and the IADT will signify significant achievements for ISRO’s ambitious reusable launch vehicle and human spaceflight initiatives, respectively.
