On Thursday, a validated case of mpox was reported in Sweden. For the second time in the previous two years, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared mpox a global public health emergency. It is following an outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo that has now spread to other nations. Mpox virus WHO Minister of Health and Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed stated at a press conference: “We have now also during the afternoon had confirmation that we have one case in Sweden of the more grave type of mpox, the one called Clade I.” It is a virus spread by intimate contact.
