Health authorities in Pune have reported that six people have been infected with the Zika virus. It includes 2 pregnant women. Zika virus in Pune Four cases were identified in the Erandwane area, while two were found in the Mundhwa area.The Zika virus is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. It is also responsible for spreading diseases such as dengue and chikungunya. The virus was first discovered in Uganda in 1947. In a recent development, a 16-week pregnant woman was diagnosed with the Zika virus. It brought the total number of cases to six. Additionally, a 28-year-old woman also tested positive for the infection last week. She was also 22 weeks pregnant. The health officials have reported that the condition of two pregnant women is stable. Zika virus in pregnant women may lead to microcephaly in the foetus. A 46-year-old doctor and his teenage daughter tested positive for Zika virus, but their health condition is stable. The doctor showed symptoms like fever and rashes and was admitted to a private hospital. The Pune Municipal Corporation is taking preventive measures to control mosquito breeding by conducting fogging and fumigation activities.
