Siliguri train accident: Kanchanjunga express flung into the air after hitting from a Goods train

Siliguri train accident: A tragic incident occurred in Bengal’s Siliguri on Monday. It  resulted in the death of eight individuals and injuries to several others. The Kanchanjunga Express derailed after being struck by a goods train. Among the victims were the driver and assistant of the goods train, as well as the guard of the Kanchanjunga Express. The driver of the goods train had exceeded the signal. The Kanchanjunga Express was on its way from Tripura’s Agartala to the Sealdah station in Kolkata when the unfortunate incident occurred. Due to the severe collision, at least two compartments of the Kanchanjunga Express derailed, with one coach being thrown into the air, as depicted in the visuals. The accident took place in the Rangapani region of Siliguri, near North Bengal’s New Jalpaiguri station. According to Jaya Varma Sinha, the initial investigation suggests that the accident was caused by “human error.” She stated, “The initial findings indicate that this incident was a result of disregarding signals.” Sabyasachi De, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NRF), confirmed that the injured individuals have been transferred to a nearby hospital. He also informed that the death toll has increased from five to eight. Siliguri train accident: Government announced financial support  To support the affected families, a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh has been announced from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims’ families, and Rs 50,000 for the injured individuals. Additionally, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted about providing financial aid of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the victims, Rs 2.5 lakh for those severely injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries. Earlier, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) informed India Today that an emergency medical team was immediately dispatched to the accident site, and rescue operations were being carried out despite the rain.  The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of North Frontier Railway’s Katihar division informed news agency PTI that the 13174 Kanchanjunga Express met with the accident at around 9 am.
